Explore Murchison Falls National Park with Go Gorilla Tracking Safaris: Uganda’s Crown Jewel of Wildlife

At Go Gorilla Tracking Safaris:, we believe that every safari should be more than just a journey—it should be a deeply enriching experience that connects you with nature, wildlife, and local cultures. Among Uganda’s many natural treasures, Murchison Falls National Park stands as an iconic destination that captures the raw, untamed beauty of East Africa. As Uganda’s oldest and largest national park, Murchison offers an unparalleled blend of landscapes, wildlife, and adventure. Whether you’re here for the big game, birding, primate encounters, or the thunderous power of the Nile, this park delivers an unforgettable safari.

A Legacy of Wilderness

Located in northwestern Uganda and spanning over 3,840 square kilometers, Murchison Falls National Park is part of the greater Murchison Falls Conservation Area, which includes Bugungu and Karuma Wildlife Reserves. First gazetted as a game reserve in 1926, the park gained national park status in 1952, making it Uganda’s first protected area of its kind.

Named after the dramatic Murchison Falls, where the mighty River Nile is forced through a narrow 7-meter gorge before plunging 43 meters into the “Devil’s Cauldron,” this park embodies the raw power of nature. It’s not only a natural wonder but a haven for biodiversity.

Murchison Falls National Park Wildlife Experience

While Uganda doesn’t currently host the full Big Five due to the absence of wild rhinos (which are being reintroduced at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a stop we offer on the way to Murchison), Murchison Falls delivers outstanding wildlife viewing.

Here, you can encounter:

  • African elephants roaming in herds

  • Lions basking in the savanna or stalking their prey

  • Leopards, elusive but present, especially in the early mornings or dusk

  • Cape buffaloes by the hundreds

In addition, Murchison is home to the Rothschild’s giraffe, one of the rarest giraffe subspecies, thriving in the northern part of the park. Other residents include warthogs, hyenas, Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeests, waterbucks, and hippos that crowd the riverbanks. Nile crocodiles, some massive in size, wait patiently for their next meal along the water’s edge.
