A Legacy of Wilderness

Located in northwestern Uganda and spanning over 3,840 square kilometers, Murchison Falls National Park is part of the greater Murchison Falls Conservation Area, which includes Bugungu and Karuma Wildlife Reserves. First gazetted as a game reserve in 1926, the park gained national park status in 1952, making it Uganda’s first protected area of its kind.

Named after the dramatic Murchison Falls, where the mighty River Nile is forced through a narrow 7-meter gorge before plunging 43 meters into the “Devil’s Cauldron,” this park embodies the raw power of nature. It’s not only a natural wonder but a haven for biodiversity.

Murchison Falls National Park Wildlife Experience

 While Uganda doesn’t currently host the full Big Five due to the absence of wild rhinos (which are being reintroduced at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a stop we offer on the way to Murchison), Murchison Falls delivers outstanding wildlife viewing.

Nile crocodiles, some massive in size, wait patiently for their next meal along the water’s edge.
