Murchison Falls & Nile Rafting – 5-Days Uganda Safari Experience Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Kampala, heading north toward Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area. Along the way, stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided walking safari where you’ll track white rhinos on foot—an up-close and memorable encounter.

After lunch, continue to Murchison Falls, where you’ll visit the iconic Top of the Falls. Here, the Nile River is violently squeezed through a 7-meter gorge before plunging 45 meters—creating one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls. Enjoy breathtaking views and photo opportunities before proceeding to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Game Drive & Nile River Boat Safari

Wake up early for a morning game drive on the northern bank of the park. Explore the open savannahs and woodlands in search of lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards, buffaloes, oribis, and Uganda kobs. The early hours are ideal for predator sightings.

After lunch, take a boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls. The journey along the Nile offers fantastic wildlife sightings including large pods of hippos, basking crocodiles, and a wide array of bird species such as kingfishers, fish eagles, and the rare shoebill stork. Return to your lodge for a relaxed evening.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Budongo Forest & Transfer to Jinja

After an early breakfast, transfer to Budongo Forest, located on the southern edge of Murchison Falls National Park. This tropical rainforest is home to one of Uganda’s most important chimpanzee populations. After a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, begin your chimpanzee trek. The experience can last 2–4 hours depending on the chimp locations, and offers a chance to observe these intelligent primates in their natural habitat—grooming, feeding, and interacting.

Following your trek and lunch, embark on a scenic drive south-eastward toward Jinja, the adventure capital of East Africa. Arrive in the evening and check into your hotel on the banks of the Nile.

Day 4: Full-Day White-Water Rafting on the Nile

This day is dedicated to a full-on adventure rafting experience. After a safety briefing from experienced guides, embark on a white-water rafting trip on the world-famous Nile River. Tackle a series of Grade 3–5 rapids over a 20 km stretch, with calm sections for swimming and stunning scenery throughout.

Lunch is provided along the riverbank. For those less inclined toward high-adrenaline activities, optional alternatives include kayaking, tubing, quad biking, or horseback riding along the Nile. After rafting, return to your lodge to relax and share stories from your wild day on the water.

Day 5: Source of the Nile Tour & Return to Kampala

After breakfast, visit the historic Source of the Nile in Jinja, where Lake Victoria gives birth to the mighty river. Take a guided boat ride to the exact spot Speke declared as the source in 1858 and learn about the geography, history, and local culture surrounding this iconic landmark.

After your visit, begin your return drive to Kampala or Entebbe, stopping for lunch en route. You may also make an optional stop at Mabira Forest for a brief nature walk before concluding your 5-day safari.

This 5-day Uganda safari blends nature, adventure, wildlife, and history into one epic journey—offering travelers the ultimate Pearl of Africa experience.
