3 Day Gorilla Trekking Bwindi Forest National Park Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bwindi Forest

Your safari begins with a flight or scenic drive from Entebbe or Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its biodiversity and dramatic terrain. The journey through rolling hills, tea plantations, and traditional villages sets the stage for an unforgettable adventure. Upon arrival, you’ll check in at a cozy lodge nestled in or near the forest. Later in the afternoon, you can take a guided nature walk or visit a local Batwa community for cultural insight into the region’s indigenous heritage. Dinner is served as you prepare for the next day’s trek.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You’ll be assigned to one of the habituated gorilla families and grouped according to fitness level. Trekking can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location, through steep, dense, and often muddy forest trails—but the reward is beyond words.

Once you find the gorillas, you’ll spend a magical hour observing them as they feed, groom, play, and interact. Seeing a massive silverback protectively watch over his family, or a young gorilla curiously approach you, is a profoundly moving experience. After the trek, return to the lodge to relax, enjoy a massage, or simply soak in the views of the forest canopy.

Day 3: Departure

After a leisurely breakfast, you may choose to visit a local craft market or enjoy a short community walk before beginning your journey back to Entebbe or your next destination. The safari ends, but the memory of walking with giants will stay with you forever.
