4-Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Your journey begins with your arrival in Kigali, one of Africa’s cleanest and safest cities. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a brief city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, an emotional and educational site commemorating Rwanda’s past and its inspiring journey toward peace.

After lunch in the city, set off on a scenic drive north to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. The route winds through lush countryside, terraced hills, and small villages—perfect for photography and insight into rural Rwandan life. Upon arrival, check into your lodge with views of the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes. Relax and prepare for the thrilling trek ahead.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

This is the highlight of your safari—a close encounter with mountain gorillas. After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by expert rangers. You’ll be assigned to a habituated gorilla family and led by guides through the forested slopes in search of these gentle giants.

The trek can take between 1 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once found, you’ll spend one magical hour observing their behavior—watching young gorillas play, mothers care for their infants, and dominant silverbacks oversee the group. This hour is often described as life-changing, offering a deep, emotional connection with one of our closest relatives in the animal kingdom.

Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, consider visiting the nearby Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for traditional music, dancing, and storytelling.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking or Cultural Tour

On your third day, choose between another exciting wildlife experience or a deeper cultural encounter. Head back into the forest for golden monkey trekking, a lighter hike offering views of these playful, rare primates only found in the Virunga region.

Alternatively, opt for a community visit, where you can interact with locals, visit schools or cooperatives, and learn more about Rwanda’s rich traditions and resilience. You may also choose to explore Musanze town or take a guided nature walk near the park.

Day 4: Return to Kigali – Departure

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali with optional stops for craft shopping or lunch in the city. Depending on your flight schedule, your guide will drop you off at the airport, concluding your incredible Rwandan safari
