Gorilla & Golden Monkey Trekking with Lake Mutanda Canoeing – 5-Days Uganda Adventure Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or from your hotel in Kampala, begin your journey southwest to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. Enjoy the scenic drive through Uganda’s rolling hills, tea plantations, and rural landscapes.
Stop for lunch en route and arrive at your lodge near Bwindi in the late afternoon. Settle in, enjoy the tranquil forest setting, and receive a briefing about your next day’s gorilla trekking experience.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
Rise early and transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing. You’ll be assigned a gorilla family and guided by experienced rangers deep into the forest. The trek can range from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location.
Once found, spend an awe-inspiring hour in the presence of these gentle giants—watching them feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat. It’s a profound and emotional wildlife encounter that few ever forget.
Return to the lodge for lunch and a well-earned rest. Optional activities in the evening include a community walk or visit to local artisans.
Day 3: Transfer to Mgahinga – Golden Monkey Tracking
After breakfast, depart for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located in the Virunga Mountains and known for its rich biodiversity and cultural significance. On arrival, attend a briefing before heading into the bamboo forests for golden monkey tracking.
These rare and playful primates are endemic to the Virunga region and are a delight to observe as they leap through the trees and forage in groups. The trek is less strenuous than gorilla trekking but equally rewarding.
After your trek, enjoy lunch and then transfer to Lake Mutanda, where you’ll check in at a lodge overlooking the water.
Day 4: Lake Mutanda Canoe Tour & Village Visit
Start your day with a guided canoe tour on Lake Mutanda, one of Uganda’s most scenic highland lakes, surrounded by terraced hills and the peaks of the Virunga Volcanoes. Paddle through tranquil waters, explore small islands, and observe local fishermen at work.
After the canoe ride, take a walk through nearby villages to interact with locals and learn about their culture and daily life. Return to your lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing with stunning lake views.
Day 5: Return to Entebbe or Kampala
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Entebbe or Kampala, passing through Kabale and Mbarara towns. Enjoy a lunch stop en route and arrive in the evening, marking the end of a truly memorable Ugandan adventure.
This 5-day journey combines primates, nature, and culture into one powerful and peaceful safari experience in the Pearl of Africa
