10 Day Tanzania Wilderness Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Your adventure begins upon arrival in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania’s renowned Northern Safari Circuit. A guide will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel, where you can unwind after your journey. Later, you’ll receive a briefing about the exciting days ahead.
Nestled at the base of Mount Meru, Arusha offers a scenic and tranquil setting to begin your safari. You can choose to explore the lively town or simply relax at your accommodation before enjoying a welcome dinner and preparing for the journey ahead
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, you’ll set out for Tarangire National Park, known for its massive elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. This lesser-visited park provides an intimate safari experience, with diverse landscapes ranging from open savannah to swamps and woodlands.
On your game drive, you’ll have the chance to spot elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and possibly even the park’s legendary tree-climbing lions. Bird lovers will be in paradise, as Tarangire is home to over 550 bird species. In the evening, you’ll settle into your lodge or tented camp, surrounded by the beauty of the African bush.
Day 3: Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park
Leaving Tarangire, you’ll journey to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact yet diverse ecosystem at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park is famed for its lush groundwater forests, pink-hued flamingos, and elusive tree-climbing lions.
During your game drive, you’ll traverse a variety of landscapes, from dense woodlands to open plains and the shores of the shimmering lake. Expect to see elephants, hippos, giraffes, and a stunning array of bird species. As the day ends, you’ll retreat to your lodge or camp near the park, where you can unwind under the African night sky
Days 4-6: Serengeti National Park – The Heart of the Wilderness
On day four, you’ll travel to the legendary Serengeti National Park, a vast expanse of open plains teeming with wildlife. This UNESCO World Heritage site is best known for the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras move in search of fresh grazing lands.
Over the next three days, you’ll embark on thrilling game drives, exploring different regions of the park—from the bustling Seronera Valley to remote corners filled with hidden gems. You’ll have the chance to witness the Big Five—lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos—alongside cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, and countless antelope species.
Early morning and late afternoon drives will maximize your wildlife sightings, while evenings at your lodge or tented camp will allow you to relax and take in the serene beauty of the African wilderness under a canopy of stars.
Days 7-8: Ngorongoro Crater – The Eden of Africa
After an early game drive in the Serengeti on day seven, you’ll make your way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater—the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera.
On day eight, you’ll descend into the crater for an unforgettable safari experience. This enclosed ecosystem is home to an incredible density of wildlife, including elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalo, and a wide range of smaller species. With permanent water sources, the crater attracts animals year-round, making it one of the best places to observe Africa’s diverse wildlife in one location.
In the evening, you’ll ascend to the crater rim, where your lodge offers breathtaking views of this natural wonder.
Day 9: Cultural Encounter at Lake Eyasi & Return to Arusha
Before concluding your safari, you’ll visit Lake Eyasi, located on the southwestern edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This remote, scenic region is home to the Hadzabe people, one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes in Africa.
Spending the morning with the Hadzabe, you’ll gain fascinating insights into their traditional lifestyle—learning about their hunting techniques, foraging methods, and fire-making skills. This rare cultural experience provides a deeper understanding of Tanzania’s rich heritage.
Afterward, you’ll return to Arusha for your final night, reflecting on the incredible experiences of your journey.
Day 10: Departure from Arusha
On your last day, enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your hotel before transferring to the airport for your departure flight. If time allows, you can explore Arusha’s markets or pick up souvenirs before heading home.
As you bid farewell to Tanzania, you’ll leave with cherished memories of breathtaking landscapes, thrilling wildlife encounters, and deep cultural experiences
