Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Kampala. Set off on a scenic full-day drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in the remote southwest. The journey takes you through Uganda’s stunning countryside—lush hills, banana plantations, tea estates, and rural villages.

You’ll stop for lunch en route and arrive at your lodge by evening. Check in, relax, and enjoy your first taste of the forest atmosphere that surrounds Bwindi. Dinner will be served at the lodge, followed by a briefing about the days ahead.

Day 2: Full-Day Birding in Buhoma Sector

Start your day early with a guided birding walk in the Buhoma sector, the most accessible and popular part of Bwindi. Accompanied by an expert birding guide, you’ll explore forest trails and edge habitats teeming with birdlife.

Bwindi is home to over 350 bird species, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics such as the African green broadbill, bar-tailed trogon, Shelley’s crimsonwing, and the handsome francolin. Your guide will help identify calls and plumage, offering detailed insights into this avian paradise.

Return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest before heading out for an afternoon birding walk along the Munyaga River Trail, great for catching forest-edge species and additional Albertine Rift endemics.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Bwindi Park Headquarters for a pre-trek briefing. You’ll be assigned a gorilla family and guided by professional trackers into the forest. The trek may take between 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location.

Once found, spend a life-changing hour observing these incredible primates up close. Watch the silverback lead his group, juveniles play, and mothers tend to their infants—a truly emotional and unforgettable experience.

Return to the lodge for a well-earned lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Optional: visit a local Batwa community for a cultural experience or enjoy forest-edge birding near the lodge.

Day 4: Birding in Ruhija Sector – Transfer

After breakfast, transfer to the Ruhija sector, one of Bwindi’s richest birding zones. Along the way, enjoy birding stops and scenic views of terraced hills and valleys.

Check in at your lodge and set out for an afternoon birding walk on the Bamboo Trail, famous for spotting species like the Rwenzori batis, stripe-breasted tit, and  .

Return to your lodge for dinner and rest ahead of another full birding day.

Day 5: Full-Day Birding in Ruhija – Mubwindi Swamp Trail

Today, explore the famous Mubwindi Swamp Trail, a must-visit for serious birders. This trail offers excellent chances of spotting some of Bwindi’s rarest birds, including the African green broadbill, grauer’s rush warbler, and grauer’s swamp warbler.

The trail also offers spectacular views of the rift valley and forest canopy. Take a packed lunch for a picnic in nature and continue birding in the afternoon. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon for your final night in Bwindi.

Day 6: Return to Entebbe or Kampala

After breakfast, begin your journey back to Entebbe or Kampala, with a stop for lunch en route. Reflect on your incredible sightings and gorilla experience as you travel through Uganda’s beautiful landscape. Arrive in the evening, marking the end of your unforgettable safari.
