4 Day Gorilla Shoebill Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Mabamba Swamp Shoebill Excursion
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your guide. After a brief safari briefing, set off for your first adventure—a canoe excursion in the Mabamba Swamp, located along the northern shores of Lake Victoria. This Ramsar-listed wetland is one of the best places in Africa to see the elusive shoebill stork, often referred to as a “living dinosaur.” Glide silently through narrow water channels in a local dugout canoe as you search for this giant, prehistoric-looking bird and spot other wetland species like papyrus gonoleks, malachite kingfishers, and African jacanas. Return to your lodge in Entebbe for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Flight to Bwindi – Transfer to the Forest Lodge
After breakfast, board a domestic flight to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in southwestern Uganda. Upon arrival at Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip, your driver-guide will transfer you to your forest lodge, located near the park entrance. The scenic drive offers views of rolling hills, terraced farms, and lush greenery. Settle into your eco-lodge and enjoy a peaceful afternoon soaking in the sights and sounds of the jungle. Optional activities include a village walk or birdwatching around the lodge.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Today is the pinnacle of your safari—gorilla trekking in Bwindi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before embarking on your trek. Led by experienced guides and trackers, you’ll hike through dense rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. Once found, you’ll spend one magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat—an awe-inspiring and emotional experience. Return to your lodge for a well-earned rest and celebration dinner.
Day 4: Return to Entebbe – Departure
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airstrip for your return flight to Entebbe. Depending on your international flight schedule, you may have time for optional souvenir shopping or a visit to the Entebbe Botanical Gardens before your departure
An ideal short safari for wildlife lovers seeking rare encounters in two of Uganda’s most iconic ecosystems.
