2-Days Rwanda Gorilla Trek Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

Your adventure begins in Kigali, where you’ll be met by your guide for a morning city tour (optional, time-permitting). Highlights include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful tribute to Rwanda’s history and resilience.

Afterward, embark on a scenic 2.5-hour drive north to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. The route winds through Rwanda’s famous “Land of a Thousand Hills,” with stunning views of terraced farms, green valleys, and distant volcanoes. Upon arrival, check into your lodge nestled at the foothills of the Virunga Mountains. Enjoy a relaxing evening, prepare for your trek, and receive a briefing from park officials on gorilla trekking etiquette and conservation efforts

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking – Return to Kigali

Rise early for a hearty breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing and group allocation. Led by experienced guides and trackers, you’ll trek through dense forest and bamboo-covered slopes in search of a gorilla family. The trek can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours depending on the location of the group, but the effort is richly rewarded.

Once you locate the gorillas, you’ll spend a magical hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact. Witnessing a silverback protect his group or a young gorilla swing from branches is a truly humbling and unforgettable experience.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch before beginning your journey back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.

This compact yet powerful itinerary offers an immersive wildlife experience and a deeper appreciation for Rwanda’s conservation success story. Ideal for adventurers, photographers, and nature lovers alike
