1-Day Lake Victoria Fishing Trip Uganda Details
Morning Departure:
The tour begins early with a pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. After a scenic drive to the lakeshore, typically at the Entebbe pier or Munyonyo, you’ll board a well-equipped motorized boat operated by experienced local guides. The boats are designed for comfort and safety, with life jackets, rain gear, shade canopies, GPS, first aid kits, and all necessary fishing equipment.
Fishing on Lake Victoria :
Once on the water, you’ll head towards deeper sections or island shores, popular spots for Nile perch and tilapia. The main target of the safari is the giant Nile perch, which can weigh anywhere from 10 to over 80 kilograms. Trolling is the primary fishing technique used, with quality rods, reels, and lures provided.
Depending on the season and time of day, you may also catch catfish and other local species. Professional guides are on board to assist with techniques, bait setup, and fish handling. Catch and release is encouraged to conserve the lake’s fish population.
Lunch on the Lake:
Around midday, enjoy a picnic-style lunch served on board or on one of the nearby islands like Bulago or Ngamba, depending on the weather and your preference. You’ll have time to relax, enjoy scenic views, and perhaps spot some birds and other wildlife along the shoreline.
Afternoon Session and Return:
After lunch, continue your fishing session in a different location, increasing your chances of a successful catch. The guides adjust locations based on water currents, weather, and fish activity. By late afternoon, you’ll return to the landing site, where a vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel.
Best Time to Visit:
The best months for fishing on Lake Victoria are June to September and December to February, when waters are calm. Avoid heavy rainy months like April and May for a smoother experience.
This 1-day fishing safari offers not only a chance to catch some of the largest freshwater fish in the world but also a peaceful and scenic escape on Uganda’s most iconic water body.
